Help and support

How to reach us, look after your account and your plan, and answers to the questions parents ask.

Contact us

Email . We read every message.

In the app, Settings → Get in touch, then choose what it's about; ForeTale opens an email to us with the subject filled in.

Delete your account

  1. Open ForeTale and tap Settings.
  2. Under Account, tap Delete account.
  3. Read what will be deleted, then confirm.

This permanently deletes your family's characters, stories, schedule, and feelings history. It can't be undone.

Deleting your account doesn't cancel an active subscription — you can manage that in your phone's subscription settings.

Download your family's data

  1. Open ForeTale and tap Settings.
  2. Under Privacy & your data, tap Download my family's data.
  3. Tap Download, then choose where to save the file.

You'll get one file with everything ForeTale keeps about your family: the people and what you wrote about them, every story and its pages, your calendar, the feelings history, your picture history, your AI permission record and your plan's credit records.

It doesn't include how the app was used. If you'd like that too, email us at support@foretale.app.

Cancel your plan

Plans are billed through your Apple account, so that's where you cancel:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap your name, then Subscriptions.
  3. Tap ForeTale, then Cancel Subscription.

You can get there from ForeTale too: Settings → Change or cancel your plan → Change or cancel in the App Store.

Cancel anytime. Your plan stays on until the end of the time you've paid for. Everything you've made stays yours. Your people and stories stay in ForeTale after the plan ends. What ends with the plan is its monthly stories and drawing credits, including any unused stories you'd carried over, and any free stories or drawing credits you hadn't used.

Questions parents ask

What is ForeTale?

ForeTale is an app for parents of autistic children. Tell it what's coming up, and it makes an illustrated social story starring your child and the people they know. You read and approve every page. Then the story waits in your child's day, in the morning, afternoon or evening you choose.

Is ForeTale therapy?

No. ForeTale is a support, not a treatment, and it isn't a medical device. ForeTale stories describe what will happen and who will be there. They don't set behavior goals, score the child, or reward compliance. ForeTale isn't part of any therapy.

If you're worried about your child's development, talk to your child's doctor or the professionals who support them.

Do I need photos of my child?

No. ForeTale never asks for a photo. For each person, you pick the closest face, body shape and outfit from sets of drawings, and ForeTale draws the finished picture. Every story is drawn from those pictures.

Where is AI used, and do you ask first?

ForeTale uses AI from Anthropic and OpenAI to write and draw each story: Anthropic's AI writes the words, and OpenAI's draws your family and each story's pictures.

ForeTale asks your permission before any of your family's details are sent to these AI services. You can turn it off any time in Settings → Privacy & your data → AI permission. While it's off, nothing new is sent, so you can't make new stories or pictures until you turn it back on.

Whatever the AI makes, you read and approve every page before your child sees it.

Is my child's reading tracked?

In Child Mode, we don't record what your child reads, except a feeling they choose to tap at the end of a story, saved for you to see.

In Child Mode, ForeTale's analytics never record which stories your child opens, how long they read, or when. A feeling your child taps is saved with the story's title and the time, so you can see it in Settings → Feelings history. It isn't used for analytics, and it's deleted with your account.

Reading outside Child Mode, on your side of the app, counts as your own use of ForeTale, and ForeTale's own analytics record it like the rest of your use.

What's free?

Free, once: your first 2 stories and 10 drawing credits. They don't renew each month, and you can make your first story before creating an account.

After that, you can choose a plan in the app. After a plan ends, there's no free allowance.

What's a drawing credit?

1 credit = 1 drawing. Drawing a person takes a few: each set of choices you pick from is one drawing, and so is the finished picture.

A story's own pictures come with the story, and each story includes 2 free redraws. After those, each redraw uses a drawing credit.

Which devices does ForeTale work on?

ForeTale is made for iPhone and iPad. A version for Android phones is coming soon to Google Play.

Can't I just use an AI chatbot?

You can. A chatbot can draft a social story, and ForeTale uses AI from Anthropic and OpenAI too. What ForeTale adds is everything around the draft. Your family is drawn once, without photos, and every story is drawn from those same pictures. If one page looks off, redraw it before your child sees it. Every story keeps a calm shape that describes rather than instructs, and you approve each page first. Then it waits in your child's day, in a PIN-locked child mode. No ads, no third-party tracking, and we ask before any family details go to the AI.
